Here are some steps you can take to hold your people accountable:

1. Set clear expectations:

Ensure that you communicate clear expectations about what is expected of the individual or team. This can be done by creating specific and measurable goals, setting timelines, and outlining the consequences of not meeting expectations.

2. Follow-up regularly:

It’s important to check-in regularly to assess progress and provide feedback. I suggest this should be done on a weekly basis depending on the level of experience of the members involved.

This will allow you to identify any potential issues early on and make adjustments to ensure that everyone is on track to meet their goals.

3. Provide feedback:

When providing feedback, it’s essential to be specific, objective, and constructive. Focus on the behavior or performance rather than the individual, and provide suggestions for improvement. And don’t forget to mention what the staff is doing well. Don’t just focus on what’s going well.

4. Use positive reinforcement:

Recognize and reward individuals or teams when they meet or exceed expectations. This can be in the form of public recognition, a bonus, or additional responsibilities.

5. Enforce consequences:

If someone consistently fails to meet expectations, enforce consequences. This can range from a performance improvement plan, to disciplinary action, or termination.
